Earth Day ceremonies, April 22, 1970. The burial of an automobile engine was what was happening in the park in the afternoon of Earth Day, April 22. The engine was rolled from the school to the park, near the baseball field, where the coffin was dropped into the hole that was alread dug for it. Ron Hounstein perfomed the eulogy and afterward several mourners helped shovel the dirt into the grave. A tombstone was placed on the grave on which these words were engraved: "Here lies the internal combustion engine, April 22, 1970."
